Water may flow from the stone, 
But it was never meant to become bread; 
That’s what the Son is for— 

The straight shot from the wilderness 
Back to the garden, the one-way 
Ticket to paradise, 

The water from the side of Christ 
Into wine, his flesh into feast, 
Each utterance a morsel, 

The forbidden fruit hanging 
     From the tolerant tree
In this tasteless postmodernity, 
A stone-cold godless gastronomy.
